Technology 02 — Radiofrequency

Stationary radiofrequency at three frequencies

Radiofrequency heats tissue in a controlled way and is one of the most studied technologies for skin firmness. AdipoXtrem delivers it at 1 MHz, 2 MHz and 3 MHz from fixed applicators.

Short answer

Aesthetic radiofrequency passes a high-frequency alternating current through tissue. Tissue resistance to that current produces heat. This moderate heating is used to stimulate collagen remodelling and improve skin firmness and texture.

Controlled heating

Unlike light or ultrasound, radiofrequency is not a wave “sent” towards a target: it is a current flowing through the tissue between or beneath the electrodes. Tissue heats according to its electrical resistance. The aim is to reach a temperature that stimulates the dermis without burning the epidermis.

Reviews describe two mechanisms behind tightening: immediate contraction of collagen fibres under heat, then a repair response that stimulates new collagen and elastin over the following weeks [1].

Why 1, 2 and 3 MHz?

The manufacturer describes a “triple-level” radiofrequency: 1, 2 and 3 MHz. As a general principle, radiofrequency penetration depth is an inverse function of frequency: lower frequencies act more deeply, higher ones more superficially [2]. Several frequencies allow the setting to be matched to the area and goal. We do not publish millimetre depths, which also depend on electrode configuration, power and tissue, and have not been measured on the device.

Why “stationary”?

With manual radiofrequency, the handpiece is moved constantly to spread the heat. On AdipoXtrem, the applicator stays in place and energy delivery is managed by programme parameters. The practitioner monitors comfort and adjusts intensity; the session screen displays a temperature reading.

What the literature says

Among non-invasive technologies, radiofrequency has some of the most substantial published data on cellulite appearance and skin laxity; a 2023 review ranks it first among non-invasive options for moderate cellulite [3], while noting heterogeneous protocols and assessment methods.

Important These studies concern radiofrequency in general and other devices. They do not, on their own, demonstrate AdipoXtrem's efficacy.

Sensations and precautions

Radiofrequency produces a feeling of warmth that should remain comfortable; temporary redness is common. It is contraindicated in particular with implanted electronic devices (e.g. pacemakers), metal implants in the area, pregnancy and skin lesions. Safety and contraindications →
